HC Deb 12 November 1987 vol 122 cc263-4W
Mr. Hood

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will make a statement on the annual revenue costs to the Scottish electricity industry of nuclear power stations.

Mr. Lang

I am advised by the South of Scotland Electricity Board that the annual revenue costs associated with its nuclear generating stations, including depreciation but excluding interest and supplementary depreciation, for 1984–85, 1985–86 and 1986–87 were £143 million; £165 million and £183 million respectively.

Mr. Hood

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will give details of debt charges still outstanding on each of the nuclear power stations in Scotland.

Mr. Lang

I am advised by the South of Scotland Electricity Board that it does not allocate borrowings to specific capital projects and much of its new capital expenditure is internally financed. However, certain loans have been arranged through Euratom and the European Investment Bank specifically for Torness power station and at 30 September 1987 these totalled £635 million.
