HC Deb 12 November 1987 vol 122 c316W
40. Mr. Kilfedder

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will provide a new hospital and better hospital facilities for the North Down area; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Needham

Decisions on the planning and delivery of hospital services for the local population of the North Down area are primarily a matter for the eastern health and social services board. I understand it has consulted a wide range of interests about its proposals for hospital services in the area.

Final decisions have yet to be taken, but I understand that the board's policy is to consolidate acute services at the Ulster hospital, Dundonal, with appropriate support from the Ards and Bangor hospitals.
