HC Deb 12 November 1987 vol 122 cc190-1W
Mr. Nicholas Baker

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what representations he has received about the workings of the Mobile Homes Act 1983; and if he will bring forward proposals to amend that Act.

Mrs. Roe

We continue to receive various representations about the working of the Act. We are satisfied that the Act is in general working well and we have no plans to amend it. The Department has held talks with representatives of mobile home residents and site owners which have resulted in some important initiatives. These include a code of guidance to be issued by the site owners' organisations to their members, dealing with many of the points of concern to residents. An arbitration scheme along the lines of the one negotiated for the holiday caravan industry is also under consideration. These measures should help deal with the problems that some residents have faced.
