§ Mr. WallerTo ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he intends to bring within the scope of his proposals relating to firearms a provision prohibiting the manufacture, sale or possession of any firearm consisting entirely or mainly of plastic materials.
§ Mr. Douglas HoggThis matter is under consideration.
§ Mr. DevlinTo ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he proposes to include in the new Firearms Bill a provision that those members of gun clubs who use their membership to obtain a firearms certificate will lose their certificate if they should allow their membership of the gun club to lapse.
§ Mr. Douglas HoggContinued membership of a gun club is normally checked on renewal of a firearm certificate every three years. We are not persuaded that more frequent checks on club membership, which would be costly, would significantly improve the present controls.
§ Mr. David NicholsonTo ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will list, in theOfficial Report, 206W the meeting he has had with the various organisations representing owners and users of firearms, regarding his proposals for changes in the law governing ownership and use of firearms; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Douglas HoggI have met representatives of the British Shooting Sports Council, a body which represents the interests of a large number of shooting organisations. In addition, officials have met with representatives of the Arms and Armour Society, the Historical Breech Loading and Small Arms Association, the Imperial War Museum, the Shooting Sports Trust, the Gun Trade Association, the National Pistol Association, the Clay Pigeon Shooting Association, the National Rifle Association, the National Small Bore Rifle Association, and the Scottish Shooting Council. We have also written to a wide range of interested organisations seeking their views on our proposals.
