HC Deb 12 November 1987 vol 122 c314W
22. Mr. McCusker

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what success he is having in his campaign to compel employers in Northern Ireland to keep records of the percentage of religious beliefs of their employees.

Mr. Viggers

The Government have strongly recommended, in the "Guide to Effective Practice", published on 15 September, that employers in Northern Ireland should monitor the religious affiliation of their employees. It is too early to assess the response of employers to this recommendation, but I am aware that monitoring is already under taken by a number of employers in both the private and public sectors. I urge other employers to follow their example.
