To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland when will he publish the report on the future development of public health functions and community medicine in Scotland set up by the chief medical officer.

Mr. Michael Forsyth

The chief medical officer issued a discussion paper in July 1986 on the future development of community medicine in Scotland. In the light of responses to that paper we issued proposals in June 1987 which we are considering with health boards, local authorities and professional bodies.

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what have been the numbers, for every year since 1975, of community medicine specialists in Scotland.
