HC Deb 12 November 1987 vol 122 cc295-6W
Mr. Rooker

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services when he gave his consent to the partial closure of the cardiac unit at the children's hospital, Birmingham.

Mrs. Currie

I understand that a number of beds in this unit have had to be closed temporarily, so as to maintain a safe standard of nursing care. Health authorities are not obliged to consult Ministers before implementing a temporary closure for this reason.

Mr. Rooker

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services why there has been a reduction in paediatric nursing care at the children's hospital, Birmingham.

Mrs. Currie

The provision of paediatric nursing care at this hospital is the responsibility of the Central Birmingham health authority. The hon. Member may therefore wish to write to the chairman of Central Birmingham health authority for the information he requires.
