To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services whether there has been any change in the cash limits or running costs to his Department for 1987–88.

Mr. Scott

The cash limit for class XV, vote 5 (Administration and Miscellaneous Services) has been reduced by £3.049 million (from £1,342.968 million to £1,339.919 million).

The revision takes account of a number of changes, namely reductions of £2.6 million, arising from revised assumptions for unemployment, and £1,132 million in respect of the Department of Employment's 1986–87 cash limit overspend, (both reflected on this vote in reduced agency payments to the Department of Employment); an increase of £0.818 million following a reassessment in the

announced abatement in respect of the DHSS 1986–87 cash limit overspend (from £4.284 million to £3.466 million), and transfers to the Department of Trade and Industry and the Welsh Office of £0.050 million and £0.085 million respectively.

As a result of the above-mentioned transfers to the Department of Trade and Industry and the Welsh Office, the gross running costs limit of the Department of Health and Social Security is reduced by £0.135 million from £1,700.813 million to £1,700.678 million.
