Mr. McAllion

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services what was the number of outstanding claims for social security benefits in the Dundee, East and Dundee, West offices of his Department on the latest available date; and what were the figures for the same months in each year since 1979.

Details of the number of claims outstanding at the two offices concerned are shown in the table.

appeals against decisions on supplementary benefit single payments where the appeal had been forwarded to the local social security appeal tribunal but a submission by the adjudication officer on the appeal had not yet been made. An adjudication officer's submission had been forwarded to the local social security appeal tribunal in respect of a further 331 and 357 single payment cases respectively and these appeals are awaiting a hearing.

I regret that the equivalent figures for each year since 1979 are not readily available in the form requested and could be obtained only at disproportionate cost.

The number of single payments made to people receiving supplementary benefit from the Dundee, East and Dundee, West local offices of my Department are given in the table below. The figures are for the years April to April.
