HC Deb 10 November 1987 vol 122 c167W
49. Mr. Hayward

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what is the total value of investment in ships currently on order for the Royal Navy.

Mr. Sainsbury

There are currently 20 major ships and nine submarines in various stages of construction, representing a total investment of about £4.5 billion at 1986–87 price levels. These include the Hunt class mine-countermeasures vessel HMS Berkeley and the Royal Fleet Auxiliary Sir Galahad scheduled for acceptance later this month.

55. Mr. Douglas

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he will make a further statement on the ordering pattern of surface vessels for the Royal Navy.

Mr. Sainsbury

Decisions on future orders will be taken when appropriate.
