HC Deb 10 November 1987 vol 122 cc113-4W
Mr. Fatchett

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science, pursuant to the answer to the hon. Member for Rugby and Kenilworth (Mr. Pawsey) of 3 November, at column645, if he will indicate the amount of money which will be provided in 1988–89 for equipping schools for the new general certificate of secondary education courses; and what was the equivalent figure for 1987–88.

Mrs. Rumbold

The plans for 1988–89 allow for £87 million to be spent on non-teaching costs associated with the introduction of the GCSE. The equivalent figure for 1987–88 was £100 million. In both years the provision is in line with what local authorities collectively forecast would be needed.
