HC Deb 10 November 1987 vol 122 c161W
19. Mr. Burns

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what his Department is doing to provide point defence missile systems to protect all Royal Navy ships against anti-ship missile attacks.

Mr. Sainsbury

Seawolf and its variants is our principal point defence missile system and is entering service in increasing numbers. We are fitting conventional launch Seawolf to type 22 frigates and plan to fit vertical launch Seawolf to the type 23 frigates and AOR.

In addition to keeping under review the possibility of improvements and modifications, we are currently considering a lightweight version.
