§ Mr. David ShawTo ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will make it his policy that none of the funds or moneys under the control, management or ownership of the Bank of England will be used to purchase any equity share capital in Eurotunnel or any other company involved in building the Channel tunnel.
§ Mr. Peter LilleyThere is no intention of using Bank of England Issue Department funds in this way. The deployment of funds controlled, managed or owned by the banking department is a matter for the Bank of England.
