HC Deb 10 November 1987 vol 122 cc157-8W
Mr. Tony Banks

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what was the total cost of the banner unveiling outside the London headquarters of BP carried out by Royal Marines on 15 October.

Mr. Norman Lamont

[holding answer 2 November 1987]: The cost to the Government was about £65,000.

Mr. Austin Mitchell

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether bed-and-breakfasted part-paid BP shares sold or bed and breakfasted to establish tax loss positions will be eligible for repurchase by the Bank of England; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Norman Lamont

[holding answer 9 November 1987]: Yes; the tax position of holders of BP partly-paid shares is not a relevant factor in respect of the bank's scheme.

Mr. Austin Mitchell

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what action will be taken against small applicants of BP shares who cancel their cheques or withdraw their application: and who is responsible for taking action against those who refuse to pay the full price.

Mr. Norman Lamont

[holding answer 9 November 1987]: I refer the hon. Member to the answer to an earlier question I gave him on 9 November.
