§ Ms. RichardsonTo ask the Secretary of State for Employment (1) how many(a) women and (b) men single parents are receiving child-care payments whilst participating on the job training scheme;
(2) whether he has any plans to expand the experimental scheme to the whole of England, Scotland and Wales whereby single parents on the job training scheme can receive payments for child care costs; and whether he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Cope[holding answer 5 November 1987]: The experimental scheme in question began in 10 areas during September. At the end of October, six women who are single parents were receiving child care payments. No men were receiving child care payments. The provision will be evaluated in the new year. It would not be appropriate to make decisions on the future of the scheme until that evaluation is complete.
