HC Deb 09 November 1987 vol 122 cc20-1W
Mr. Wilson

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what discussions he has had with(a) the English Football Association, (b) the Professional Footballer's Association or (c) any other body over the guidelines which should be applied in considering whether a prosecution should arise from incidents during football matches.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

None. It is for the appropriate chief officer of police to decide whether criminal charges should be brought as a result of incidents during football matches. Any cases in which charges are made in England and Wales are then referred to the Crown prosecution service.
