HC Deb 05 November 1987 vol 121 c820W
23. Mr. Andrew F. Bennett

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will make a further statement about the programme of tape recording of interviews with suspects; and how soon this will be available in all police areas.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

Following the completion of field trials in six areas, police forces throughout England and Wales are now making arrangements for the introduction of the tape recording of interviews with suspects. The speed at which tape recording can be introduced within a force area will depend on a number of factors including resource implications for the police and for other agencies in the criminal justice system.
