HC Deb 05 November 1987 vol 121 cc823-4W
50. Mr. Hanley

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many prisoners, either convicted or on remand, are currently being held in police cells; and whether industrial action by the Prison Officers Association is still preventing these prisoners' admission into prisons.

Mr. John Patten

On Wednesday 4 November 810 were held in police cells, in England and Wales, most of whom would have been on remand.
