HC Deb 05 November 1987 vol 121 c830W
Mr. Beggs

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many applications for extradition to the United Kingdom of persons in the Republic of Ireland are being processed by the authorities in the Republic and how many of these applications are in respect of terrorist-type offences in the United Kingdom.

Mr. Hurd

I have been asked to reply.

Figures are not available for the total number of warrants now being processed, but they include warrants relating to eight persons whose return has been requested in connection with terrorist offences.

Mr. Beggs

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many persons have been extradited to the United Kingdom from the Republic of Ireland for terrorist-style offences (a) in the two years prior to the signing of the Anglo-Irish Agreement and (b) since the signing of the Anglo-Irish Agreement.

Mr. Hurd

I have been asked to reply.

The Home Office does not have records of individual cases, but I understand that two people were returned to the United Kingdom from the Republic of Ireland for terrorist offences in the two years prior to the signing of the Anglo-Irish agreement. No one has yet been returned since the agreement was signed.
