HC Deb 05 November 1987 vol 121 cc791-2W
Mr. Steinberg

asked the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster if he will introduce legislation to require manufacturers of aerosols to state on the can whether the product contains chlorofluorocarbons; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Atkins

The Government are taking steps to implement the Montreal protocol for the protection of the ozone layer, which will control the future production and use of chlorofluorocarbons. I see no need for additional measures regarding the labelling of aerosols. Individual manufacturers are free to indicate the contents of these canisters if they so wish: doubtless they will consider such action should there be any perceptible consumer preference.
