Dr. Godman

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he is in a position to estimate the number of service men who will have to pay the personal community charge in Scotland in its first year of operation; and if he will make a statement.

[holding answer 26 October 1987]: My right hon. and learned Friend has made no such estimate. In 1986 about 19,700 United Kingdom service men were stationed in Scotland.
