HC Deb 04 November 1987 vol 121 cc732-3W
77. Mr. Campbell-Savours

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what are the Government's proposals in relation to the storage of intermediate-level nuclear waste.

Mr. Moynihan

Intermediate-level radioactive waste is currently being stored at producing sites, pending the development of a deep disposal facility for both intermediate and low-level waste. Responsibility for evaluating the relative merits of techniques of deep burial and identifying a suitable location for a facility rests with UK NIREX Ltd. NIREX is planning to publish a discussion document shortly which will outline the options it is pursuing and invite comments from interested parties.
