§ Lord James Douglas-HamiltonIn the event of a nuclear accident overseas affecting the United Kingdom, or an accident at a United Kingdom nuclear installation with off-site effects requiring the implementation of the monitoring arrangements proposed under the national response plan, the monitoring of the Argyll and Bute area, so far as this might be necessary, would be undertaken by684W monitoring teams from such sites as the Hunterston nuclear power station or the Ministry of Defence installation at Faslane.

§ Lord James Douglas-HamiltonThe nearest sites currently capable of monitoring radioactive fallout are situated at Hunterston and Faslane. Under the national response plan for nuclear incidents overseas which is currently being developed, it is proposed to have a chain of fixed monitoring stations around the United Kingdom, in addition to the existing nuclear installations, and sites at Machrihanish and Oban are being considered.
