HC Deb 02 November 1987 vol 121 cc592-3W
Mr. Tony Banks

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what information he has concerning the importation of whale products according to product and ultimate use.

Mr. Moynihan

[holding answer 29 October 1987]: Applicants to the Department to import whale products under EC regulation 3626/82 which implements the convention on international trade and endangered species within the European Community must specify the product concerned and the purpose of import. Import permits are normally granted only for personal or scientific purposes. During the last eight years various products have been imported for these purposes including teeth, bone, tusk, blood, powder, sperm, sperm oil and spermaceti wax.
