HC Deb 02 November 1987 vol 121 cc578-9W
66. Mr. Harry Greenway

asked the Minister for the Arts whether he supports the objective of touring exhibitions from the great London collections to other parts of the United Kingdom.

Mr. Luce

I do. The Government are committed to encouraging our great national museums and galleries to make the treasures in their care more widely accessible. The Government indemnity scheme has done much to encourage the lending of objects from the nationals, and between museums generally. I hope that the unit to be set up by the Museums and Galleries Commission in the course of this financial year will be similarly successful in stimulating the creation and use of touring exhibitions.
