§ 51. Mr. Ashdownasked the Minister for the Arts what studies his Department has conducted into the effect on the arts in Britain of the present level of funding for the current year.
§ Mr. LuceI do not believe that my Department should attempt to duplicate research carried out by independent bodies. I am currently helping to fund two projects by the Policy Studies Institute. One is a research study into the economic impact of the arts, the results of which are to be published early in 1988. The other project is the third in the series "Facts about the Arts", the aim of which is to present a comprehensive picture, in tables and narrative, of the arts scene, at a particular date, but also to give an indication of general trends.
