asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will make a statement on the Government's intentions in relation to the British Railways Order 1986 tabled in November 1985, to provide for the construction of a railway bridge across the Dornoch firth.

British Rail announced on 23 July 1987 its decision to withdraw its request to Parliament for the authority to bridge the Dornoch firth with a new railway line linking Tain and Golspie.
