HC Deb 02 November 1987 vol 121 cc530-1W
Mr. Barry Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what was the cost and tonnage of importing coal into the United Kingdom, with country of origin, for each of the years from 1979.

Mr. Michael Spicer

Tonnages of coal imported into the United Kingdom in each year since 1979 are shown, by country of origin, in the following table. The total and average costs of the coal imported in each year, as at the United Kingdom port of entry, are shown at the foot of the same table.

Coal whether he will raise with him the number of accidents underground and what the chairman aims to do to bring about a reduction.

Mr. Cope

I have no immediate plans to meet the chairman of British Coal but the reduction of underground accidents is the subject of continual dialogue between the industry and Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Mines and Quarries, which investigates fatal and major injury accidents in mines.
