HL Deb 14 May 1987 vol 487 cc817-8WA
Lord Jenkins of Putney

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether it is their intention to press local authorities to follow the example of Wandsworth, where council rents in Putney are the second highest in the country.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of the Environment (Lord Skelmersdale)

Under the Housing Act 1985 all local housing authorities must review their rents from time to time and make such changes as circumstances may require. It is the responsibility of each authority, When fixing rents, to have regard to the interests of tenants and ratepayers and any other circumstances which are appropriate to its particular situation.
