§ Mr. Spellerasked the Secretary of State for the Environment, pursuant to his answer of 6 May, Official Report, columns 713–4, what information he has on the area required for a pressurised water reactor installation similar in size to that which was the subject of the Sizewell inquiry, and on whether such a unit would fit on to the existing site at Hinkley Point.

Plans of Sizewell B were submitted by the Central Electricity Generating Board in its application for consent to construct the station. This, together with considerable further evidence on the site, was given to the inquiry held by Sir Frank Layfield. The area required for permanent operational works is about 40 acres.
It is for the CEGB to consider the suitability of a site for the construction of a power station before making an application for consent to my right hon. Friend, the Secretary of State. My right hon. Friend has not yet received an application for consent to build a pressurised water reactor at Hinkley Point.
