HL Deb 14 May 1987 vol 487 c815WA
Lord Melchett

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether ADAS will provide advice free of charge to farmers farming in Environmentally Sensitive Areas on all aspects of their farming operations which are likely to affect the areas' conservation interest, or any other aspect of the environment.

The Minister of State, Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (Lord Belstead)

ADAS will continue to provide advice on general conservation matters free of charge to all farmers in England and Wales whether or not they are farming in Environmentally Sensitive Areas. There will also be no charge for normal guidance on the requirements and objectives of the ESA scheme in relation to an individual's farming operations. However, where farmers require detailed land management plans, no distinction will be drawn between ESAs and other areas in relation to ADAS advisory services for which charges are made.
