(2) how much his Department has spent on (a) word processing hardware and (b) word processing software in each year since 1984; and what is projected expenditure for the financial years 1987–88 and 1988–89.
§ Mr. Nicholas EdwardsWord processing hardware and software has been purchased to the following values:
£ 1984–85 9,750 1985–86 29,011 1986–87 13,400 Most of the equipment was purchased from Her Majesty's Stationery Office. The manufacturers of the equipment purchased were information Technology Ltd. (ITL), Hermes Precisa Ltd. and International Business Machines (IBM). To disclose details of individual contracts would be a breach of commercial confidence.
Current estimates provide for expenditure on word processing equipment of £103,500 in 1987–88 and £160,000 in 1988–89.

§ Mr. Nicholas EdwardsMy Department has not yet purchased any desktop publishing hardware or software. Sums of £75,000 and £40,000 have been provisionally earmarked in 1987–88 and 1988–89 respectively, for:he purchase of such equipment.
