§ Sir Peter Millsasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what is the Government's policy on the supply and use of nitrogenous fertilisers.
§ Mr. Jopling[pursuant to his reply, 8 May 1987]: The Government are concerned to ensure free and fair competition. However, in view of recent sharp and sudden rises in urea imports to the United Kingdom, temporary restrictions have been imposed on imports from certain countries.
My Department encourages farmers to assess the requirements of each crop for nitrogen fertiliser in accordance with good husbandry practice and to restrict application to those times when the crops can utilise the nitrogen.
