§ 26. 26. Mr. Favellasked the Minister for the Arts what steps he is taking to help preserve classic works of film and television.
§ Mr. LuceThe British Film Institute, which I fund, maintains the National Film Archive, and spent £5.2 million on the transfer and preservation of film in 1986–87. The National Heritage Memorial Fund donated £62,000 to the archive in 1986–87, specifically for the preservation of classic films. Thanks to Mr. John Paul Getty's extremely generous benefaction, a new conservation centre has been built at Berkhamsted, and will be fully operational this summer.
