§ 20. Mr. McCrindleasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will publish the most recent clear-up rates for crimes committed in the Metropolitan police area, categorised by the type of crime.
§ 22. Mr. Raynsfordasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what plans he has to improve the clear-up rate for crime in the Metropolitan police area.
§ Mr. HurdTables giving the numbers of offences recorded and cleared up in the Metropolitan police district, by main offence group, are regularly placed in the 511W Library. Decisions about what proportion of his available resources should be devoted to the investigation of crime in general or of particular crimes are for the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis, but I strongly support his decision, recorded in his strategy report for 1987, to identify as a priority, the enhanced detection of a number of offences of particular concern including burglary, robbery and racial and sexual attacks.
