§ Mr. Marlowasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what steps are being taken to ensure that the European Community convention on international trade in endangered species regulations are being properly implemented in the United Kingdom and other European Community states.
§ Mr. WaldegraveWith the agreement of the EC member states, the wildlife trade monitoring unit of the IUCN conservation monitoring centre at Cambridge is currently carrying out an independent study for the European Commission of the implementation of the EC CITES regulations in each country of the Community. The United Kingdom will co-operate fully in this study and will shortly publish a report on the implementation of CITES in the United Kingdom to assist the conservation monitoring centre in their task. Copies of the report will be placed in the House Libraries when they are available.
