§ Mr. Fallonasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether he will ask Her Majesty's inspectors to make a general report on education standards in Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
§ Mr. DunnIt is for Her Majesty's inspectors to determine their programme of inspections of education in 309W individual local education authorities. I understand that they have no plans to inspect overall educational provision in Newcastle-upon-Tyne. They do, however, carry out each year a large number of formal and informal inspections of schools and colleges in the authority. In addition they have a range of meetings with officers of the authority to discuss matters of education in the area.
