asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry how many contracts have been placed in British shipyards by foreign Governments for the construction of naval vessels so far in the current year; and if he will give details in the Official Report.

It is not the Government's practice to reveal details of sales of defence equipment to foreign countries, for reasons of confidentiality. However, this year so far there have been no contracts for the construction of warships in British yards by foreign Governments.
