HC Deb 05 May 1987 vol 115 c345W
Mr. Jessel

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment when he expects completion of the current works to protect the river banks at the Longford river, Hampton hill; if he will set out in the Official Report, what specific action he will take to reinstate wildlife, trees, flowers, grass and turf; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Chope

These works are proceeding well and it is anticipated that the engineering elements will be completed early in June. This will include modifications to the sheet piling in response to representations by residents. A berm will be constructed to encourage plant growth at the water's edge and to provide a suitable habitat for wild life.

The landscaping reinstatement of the areas where contractors' plant has disturbed the banks will begin shortly. This will include seeding with a mix of wild flowers and grasses and planting of acquatic species in the berm.
