HC Deb 05 May 1987 vol 115 cc332-3W
Mr. Gordon Brown

asked the Paymaster General if, on the basis of the labour force survey, he will list how many (a) men, (b) women, (c) men and women (i) said they would like a job and were available to start work in the next two weeks, (ii) said they would like a job but were not available to start work in the next two weeks but had sought work in the last four weeks and (iii) said they would like a job; and if he will provide estimates for Scotland, Wales and each region.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

I shall reply to the hon. Member as soon as possible.

Mr. Gordon Brown

asked the Paymaster General (1) if he will list the numbers employed in each parliamentary constituency in 1984, on the basis of his results from the labour force survey, showing for each constituency the gains and losses in employees since 1981;

(2) if he will publish the April unemployment rates for the United Kingdom and each region, including Scotland and Wales, using the new employment estimate contained in the 1984 census of employment.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

I shall reply to the hon. Member as soon as possible.

Mr. Gordon Brown

asked the Paymaster General if he will list the numbers employed in (a) manufacturing industry and (b) manufacturing and construction industry in each parliamentary constituency in 1984, on the basis of his results from the labour force survey, showing for each constituency, the gains and losses in (a) manufacturing and (b) manufacturing and construction employees since 1981.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

The information requested is not available. The labour force survey only provides estimates at national and regional level and is not designed to provide information for smaller areas such as parliamentary constituencies. The available constituency figures are the same as given in my reply to the hon. Member on 10 April 1987, at columns 435–443.

Mr. Gordon Brown

asked the Paymaster General if he will list the number of people who have been continuously unemployed since June 1983 for each region of the country and for Scotland and Wales.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

I refer the hon. Member to the answer given by my hon. Friend on 10 April 1987 at column 434.
