§ Mr. Pawseyasked the Prime Minister if she will publish a table showing the level of financial support for the farming industry alongside that for other major industries.
§ The Prime MinisterI refer my hon. Friend to the reply that my right hon. Friend the Chief Secretary gave to my hon. Friend the Member for Croydon, South (Sir W. Clark) on 2 March at columns518–520, which pointed out that in 1985, the latest year available, general Government expenditure in support of agriculture, forestry and fishing was £2,821 million compared with £2,432 million on manufacturing as a whole. A more detailed analysis could only be provided at disproportionate expense.
