HC Deb 05 May 1987 vol 115 c317W
Mr. Pawsey

asked the Prime Minister if she will publish a table showing the level of financial support for the farming industry alongside that for other major industries.

The Prime Minister

I refer my hon. Friend to the reply that my right hon. Friend the Chief Secretary gave to my hon. Friend the Member for Croydon, South (Sir W. Clark) on 2 March at columns518–520, which pointed out that in 1985, the latest year available, general Government expenditure in support of agriculture, forestry and fishing was £2,821 million compared with £2,432 million on manufacturing as a whole. A more detailed analysis could only be provided at disproportionate expense.
