§ Mr. Cohenasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department why, pursuant to the answer of 26 February, Official Report, column 347, he is unwilling to change the electoral registration form to inform voters that their names and addresses may be sold without reference to them, or to give voters the option of not having their name and address sold to other organisations.
§ Mr. Douglas HoggIt is of overriding importance to ensure that the electoral register is as complete as possible. A warning notice might discourage people from registering. The electoral register is a public document, but it is open to those who do not wish their addresses to be used for mailing purposes to inform the mailing preference service of the fact.
