HC Deb 05 May 1987 vol 115 cc337-8W
Mr. McCrindle

asked the Paymaster General if he will state the number of young people on various training schemes in the Brentwood and Ongar constituency, based on the most recent statistics available; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Lee

The information is as follows. On 30 April 1987, in the Brentwood and Ongar local authority district, which includes the constituency of Brentwood and Ongar, there were 110 people in training on YTS schemes. In addition, a further 184 young people who live in Brentwood were in training in other YTS schemes in Essex.

I am greatly encouraged by the success of YTS. It reflects well on all those involved in the programme, particularly industry and commerce, that YTS is now a high-quality training programme which offers our young people the best possible start in working life.
