HC Deb 05 May 1987 vol 115 cc321-2W
Mr. Wigley

asked the Secretary of State for Wales how much money has been spent on major road improvements on the A5 trunk road in Wales during each of the last seven years; and what is the planned expenditure, at November 1986 prices, on this road for the next four years, including the present financial year.

Mr. Wyn Roberts

The information requested is as follows:

Outturn expenditure1

1980–81 2.496

£ million
1984–85 0.888
1985–86 0.327
1986–87 0.121
1 These figures exclude expenditure on the A5/A55 Bangor By-pass as this was included in the information on A55 expenditure given to the hon. Gentleman on 27 April 1987, at column 49.

Planned expenditure at November 1986 prices1
£ million
1987–88 1.742
1988.89 20.526
1989.90 23.262
1990–91 25.436

1 This includes expenditure on the A5/A483 Chirk By-pass.
2 These figures exclude expenditure on land which is expected to amount to some £0.881 million in the years beyond 1987–88.

Expenditure in 1987–88 and later years on schemes not yet in progress will depend on the completion of design and statutory procedures and the availability of finance.

Studies are being carried out or are planned for A5 on Anglesey and for locations on the mainland. These may give rise to additional improvement schemes.
