HC Deb 05 May 1987 vol 115 cc350-1W
Mr. Blair

asked the Secretary of State for Transport how many separate roadworks there are on the A1(M) from 15 miles south of Wetherby to Darlington and from the junction of the A19 with the A1 near Thirsk to five miles north of Middlesbrough; in each case, what is the area of road with less than full two-lanes either way unrestricted traffic; when each set of works began; what is the likely cost of each; when each was due under contract to be completed; and when each is likely to be completed.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

With roadworks, the position changes daily. The position on 30 April 1987 was as follows:

Schemes Length of lane closure Start date Cost Contract completion date
Bramham Crossroads carriageway repairs 50 yards of lane closure in each direction 30 April 1987 for 1 day £1,000
Brotherton carriageway reconstruction 1¼ miles contraflow north bound carriageway closed November 1986 £1.1 million June 1987
A19 from A168/A1 junction to 5 miles north of Middlesbrough
Swale Bridge repairs to bridge ½ mile contraflow February 1987 £0.134 million May 1987
Thirsk Bypass to Richmond Farm 1½ miles nearside lane 30 April 1978 for 1 day
Routine inspection closure in both carriageways

It is not possible to forecast precise completion dates. Some of these schemes are likely to be completed in advance of the contract date.
