HC Deb 05 May 1987 vol 115 cc390-1W
Mr. Kirkwood

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether any decision has been taken on the inclusion of a religious question in the 1991 census; and whether he will make a statement.

Mrs. Currie

[pursuant to her reply, 1 May 1987, c. 264]: No decisions have been taken about the content of a 1991 census. The Office of Population Censuses and Surveys, the General Register Office for Scotland and the census office in Northern Ireland, which carries out its own census under separate legislation, have been consulting users of census statistics about possible questions for inclusion. The consultations are planned to continue throughout 1987 and all requests will be carefully considered.
