§ 14. Mrs. Clwydasked the Paymaster General if he will make a statement concerning the outcome of Government schemes to help the unemployed move in order to find jobs.
§ Mr. LeeDuring the year ended 31 March 1986 3,300 unemployed people were helped by the employment transfer scheme. We discontinued this scheme in April 1986 as it was not a cost effective way of helping people into jobs. The travel to interview scheme which helps unemployed people with the costs of attending job interviews held beyond normal daily travelling distance of their home, is now helping over 2,000 people each month compared with 330 who were helped by its predecessor the job search scheme.
