§ Mr. Waldegrave[pursuant to his reply, 23 March 1987]: It has been the policy of successive Governments since 1956 not to sponsor further memorials to leaders of the second world war. However, if sufficient public support is forthcoming, my right hon. Friend will consider sympathetically any application for this consent under the Public Statues (Metropolis) Act.
