HL Deb 24 March 1987 vol 486 c168WA
Viscount Terrington

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will amend the law so as to prevent foreign nominee companies from thwarting attempts to obtain the names of beneficial owners of shares during a takeover situation.

Lord Beaverbrook

The law on nominee shareholdings is being considered as part of the current review of the operations of the Takeover Panel which is being undertaken by the Government and those regulators involved in the supervision of the conduct of takeovers. The problem of foreign nominee companies is also being examined in the review, which should be completed in the spring. It is too early to say what the recommendations will be.
