§ Dr. M. S. Millerasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what representations he has received which are unfavourable to the passage of the Medical Act 1983 (Amendment) Bill; and if he will place copies of any such representations in the Library.
§ Mr. NewtonThe General Medical Council has consistently made clear that it would not find the additional powers which the Bill would confer helpful in fulfilling its primary function of protecting the public. The council's views were set out in a note sent to all hon. Members by its president under cover of a letter dated 6 June 1984. Copies will be placed in the Library. We have received no other representations unfavourable to the passage of the Bill.
